Learn@Lunch

Hello. Time has flown and I am being flown to Adelaide! Yes I am away for our Friday session and feel quite disappointed that I am not able to catch up with you all. I do hope that you have had some fun with your wikis. So what have we achieved?
David is probably enjoying his time playing with his new iPad! So how has time changedthe simple way of reading a book? We now have the advantage of reading books through technology that lets you image that you are turning the pages! What ever happen to that fasincation of smelling the paper. Do you remember that metho smell when the teacher ran off notes? Can we get that same realism with this new iPad?
So what about the creativity of books and the iPad? What will stop the work being copied and downloaded, passed off simply as another person's work. This happened quite easily with music and movies. What will stop this happening now with the printed word and anything that is published as a book. How far will this go? Do we learn any better through this new technology? Arrrr. .. just a few things to think about.

Wikis....

Image: Andrew (Megan) Laing The definition of 'wiki' is Hawaiian for .... fast.

Hello everyone. Enjoy the wiki ride....
My understanding of a wiki is that it functions through pages linked to each other. The word 'wiki' itself does suit the function, as to start up and create pages takes less than 30 minutes. Let's continue the 'wiki' ride this week. I have set up my gmail calendar and fed this into the home page. Live up dates for the learners. I have also tested my voice ... no not singing but up-loaded an mp3 file. Lets try this on Friday.

This Friday!

Hello everyone. I think I am eventually following everyone! I now know that I am not going to use edublog. I hadn't realise what I like most is to see my work as I go. I like the icon in blogger that lets me view my blog from the same screen. A bit vain I know - just want to see my words in print!
So this Friday I hope that we can continue to look at wikis. We can look into setting up a wiki and investigate the functions. Have a look at Michael's links into the learning styles. From the quizz, look at your learning styles. Am I teaching the same way - blended teaching style? Have we exhausted this discussion?
See you all on Friday.

Using Spell with flickr

I have tested my skills with images and ventured into Spell with Flickr! However what did stump me was I thought I could embed the code but didn't know where. So I had to work in photoshop to create the image as a jpeg and upload the image from there. A solution of sorts but I am sure this isn't quite the right way.

The camera’s ability to depict ‘a moment in time’ – to stop the clock for a brief moment – gives photographs a unique capacity to direct our consideration towards the mechanics and poetics of this pervasive and mysterious cosmic force.

Why put this in my blog? Thanks to David I read the critique from the NGV Photography exhibition and I think it sums up a lot of what we could achieve by using images rather than words. How would that be if all our classes were taught with pictures? This would definitely benefit those of us who are visually perceptive.

Have you all looked at the Learning styles that is on the 23things wiki? I know Learning styles has been out 'there' for awhile but sometimes it is worth reminding ourselves about whether the effort we put into preparing our material for classes really suits.

Look forward to seeing you all on Friday Learn@Lunch.

Another day, another adventure!

The adventure continues.
I have now been able to investigate the adding of pictures. Interestingly I had to make sure the the file was small enough to up-load. This can be time consuming as on my laptop I don't have any "quick" software that will immediately reduce the file, so I had to go through Photoshop. Inserting the file was relatively simple. I did see that I had to accept the rights before the download button came up.

First session of Learn@Lunch

Welcome everyone to the first session of Learn@Lunch. With the intellectual conversations that we have had so far this should become an enjoyable experience.
I have so many things that I want to try that I don't think the title of 23 Things is big enough!
